Every month we will add an additional challenge.

The Fine Print
- Deadlines for submission are the 20th of every month.
- The end of the 20th is Midnight Central Time.
- If you submit at 11:59 PM on the 20th in Mountain Time, your submission will neither be opened nor considered.
- Every submission sent by the deadline will receive a response. All responses will be sent by Midnight on the 25th of the month.
- The earlier you submit, the earlier you will get a response.
- Your submission is for the potential of being published.
- Submission does not guarantee that your work will appear in our online or print magazine.
- There is a cap to how many submissions we will consider.
- There is a limit to how many stories we will include in the magazines.
- You are submitting your story for publication in our online and print magazine.
- We will obtain an ISBN and copyright for the web edition and for the print edition as well. These are done for the magazine as a whole. Each author will be able to post their story or publish it elsewhere as long as that publisher is aware that the story is part of a copy-written magazine before accepting it.
- In both the online and print magazines each story will be paired with a vivid, full-color image reflecting the story content.
- Our aim is to have the online edition published by the first of the month.
- The print edition will be a quarterly publication.
- Submission must consist of your own original work.
- It should not be a paraphrase or direct quote of someone else's work.
- It should not include your own work to which you no longer own the copyright.
- It should not include your own work if you do not have the right to submit it to be published online and in print.
- If you have shared this work online, such as on a website or social media, please contact us for an individual answer.
- We cannot accept submissions if AI was used in the process. This includes:
- Generative AI
- Predictive AI
- We cannot provide author copies of the print edition.
- There is potential for a discounted copy. However, due to the magazine's newness, this is highly unlikely.
- We aim to provide author copies as a courtesy in the future.
- Authors understand there is no payment for winning submissions.
- We would love to provide remuneration, but starting a magazine, even on the web, is costly.
- In the long run, we hope to offer a prize to our top pick. Please be patient; it may take a year or two before the magazine can afford the rewards we want.
- We will ask you to make a statement before publication checking the following:
- Is this your original work?
- Do you have the copyright?
- Was AI used in the creation of this work?
- Do you understand that Bunker Squirrel Magazine will purchase and own a ISBN that includes your story?
